Mission Statement

All living things depend upon one another for their very survival. We will work with other peace and social justice groups to promote a free and just society. We envision a society centered around human need not corporate greed. We are non-hierarchical, non authoritarian, non-patriarchal and practice consensus decision making.

Background Information

During the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles,
California, thousands of activists came to the city to protest the increasing loss of Civil Liberties and Democracy in the United States of America.  Many felt there was little distinction between the two major political  parties, both awash in corporate financial contributions. Many hoped Ralph Nader, the Green Party candidate, would help break this Corporate Duopoly. Others had simply given up on reforming the government and looked to a world free of government rule and intervention.  The commercial media was successful in portraying this anarchistic group as violent, unorganized and chaotic.  The week before the convention a Convergence Center was set up in Los Angeles that offered workshops and training for those participating in the street protests.  Topics included: how to handle yourself in a nonviolent protest, first aide for activists with a special class on treating chemical weapons exposure, learning how racism affects us all, understanding your civil rights, legal observer training and others.  These classes were so impressive and the organization so well thought out that we wanted to bring this concept to Huntington Beach.  We wanted a permanent Convergence Center.  So on November 30th, 2000, we held our first  Video Night .  We use this format to relay important information that is absent or not easily accessible in the commercial mainstream media.  We believe that all living things depend upon one another for their very survival.    All else flows from this truth.

Conclusion

The earth was not made for man.  The earth is a sacred process and we are but a part of this process. If we are to survive and pass on a sustainable society and a healthy world to our children and grandchildren, we must begin today.  By reading this far, you have made an important step in that direction.  By affiliating with the Society you will realize you are not alone.  You are not weak. You are not crazy. We welcome you.
